CLASS NOTES

1967 The city of Rock Hill honored Catawba resident Cynthia Plair Roddey during the 2019 Freedom Walkway Local Heroes for Justice and Equality event. Roddey was recognized for her trailblazing and pioneering spirit as Winthrop’s first African-American student.

1972 “Voices Still Heard, Dreams Still Believed, Scenes Still Viewed” is a creative nonfiction short story published by Rock Hill resident Doris Ezell-Schmitz.

1973

Betty Creamer of Desert Hot Springs, California, is the first recipient of the Dorothy Anne Honeychurch Award for Women’s Leadership.

1974

Conway resident Priscilla Wyman Fuller retired as the chief compliance officer for Services for the UnderServed.

1987 The Walt Schrader Environmental Educator of the Year Award, given by York County, was presented to Susan “Missy” Stringfellow of Rock Hill. Stringfellow is a fifth- grade teacher at York Road Elementary School.

1990 Columbia resident Lisa Graham Brooks is the magnet lead teacher at Nursery Road Elementary School-Arts Magnet.

1997

George Austin of Alpharetta, Georgia, completed his doctorate in public administration.

“The Golden Rules of Social Media Marketing” is a book authored by Heather Heuman of Columbia.

Woodstock, Georgia, resident Robert Tidwell, an attorney, was selected by the city council to be the new lead municipal judge.

The Summerville Journal Scene featured Mount Pleasant resident Marie Connelly for her work with STEAM initiatives as the instruction technology specialist at Joseph Pye Elementary School.

2005

Phoenix City, Alabama, resident Jamie Spanner, a fifth grade social studies and math teacher at Key Elementary, received the Kinetic Credit Union Golden Apple Award.

2006

Julie Pigg of Jefferson was nomi- nated by her peers as the 2019-20 Reading Teacher of the Year at Bethune Elementary School.

Dana Stachowiak of Greensboro, North Carolina, is director of the Women’s Studies and Resource Center at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

The New American Paintings publication featured Baton Rouge, Louisiana, artist Luke Atkinson.
