When Rock Came Back to the Great Hall
A plaque dedicated to the years when music legends played in the University’s Great Hall was unveiled on the outside of the building in March 2024, together with the installation of a small exhibition display in the foyer. This includes, tickets, memorabilia and posters from some of the great bands and artists that appeared there between 1969 and 1985.
To mark the occasion, Barry Lucas, who booked the bands as the University’s Entertainments Manager, took part in an
in-conversation session with Andrew Barker, Director of Library Services and Learning Development, to retell some of the musical highlights. Afterwards, new bands and artists from the local area played on the Great Hall stage.
The third edition of When Rock Went to College: Legends Live at Lancaster University 1969-1985’ and co-authored by Paul Tomlinson, is now available and the exhibition may be viewed on weekdays at the Great Hall.
