WHEN DID YOU JOIN THE TRUST? I started work as a consultant at the Trust on 1 April 1996 – but I’d worked at the old St Mary’s Trust in 1992 as a senior registrar at what was then the Western Ophthalmic Hospital. WHICH HOSPITALS HAVE YOU WORKED AT?


Alongside the Western Eye Hospital, I have run clinics at St Mary’s and seen patients at Hammersmith on occasion.


HOW HAS YOUR ROLE CHANGED? The consultant body is much bigger now, so a lot of the responsibilities are shared in a way they weren’t before. As with everything these days, there is a greater emphasis on digital records so the practical nuts and bolts of

We now audit and record feedback much more actively than we used

I used to operate on children’s cataracts so I think some of the most memorable moments for me are of individual patients, whose lives we’ve transformed by surgery.
