FBB: built for belonging

When Logan fi rst turned up to a Football Beyond Borders (FBB) session at Kennington Park, he was just looking for a place to play and belong

Young people from across rivalling areas of South London came together to kick a ball around and connect. T ose sessions quickly evolved into something more

poignant than

football. “It was beautiful to witness because on other days,

they’d be

enemies,” Logan says. “But on that pitch, we recognised how similar we all were.” T at sense of belonging is at the

heart of FBB, the charity that helped shape Logan’s journey. FBB works with young people, providing them with a trusted adult in school to help them fi nish education with the skills

and grades they need to thrive, using football as a hook to re-engage them in the school community. Logan has been working with

young people since the age of 18, building a deep understanding of community dynamics and youth culture. In 2018, Logan returned to FBB, inspired by the organisation’s commitment to young people. “It was the care, compassion and similar lived experience that reconnected me with FBB. I was able to be a container for the boys and give them someone they could talk to.” Now, Logan is a trusted adult the next generation of young

for

people. He leads by example, showing up as his authentic self. His openness helps young people feel seen and supported, encouraging

them to navigate the world with confi dence and self-awareness. “Being a person who shows up is the fi rst step,” he says. “T at’s what builds connection.” What began with 16 boys has

in Croydon grown into a

nationwide movement. Today, FBB delivers weekly support to more than 3,000 young people across 53 schools in London, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands. T e results speak for themselves: 95% of FBB students fi nish the school year still in education, achieving GCSE results up to nine times higher than their peers. For thousands of young people, FBB is proving that football is more than a game. It’s a bridge. A classroom.

A community.
