CAFE ROBERTO MATA Regenerative coffee for a better world

Independently owned Cafeology has built its reputation on long-term transparent sourcing partnerships and a commitment to high-quality, ethical and sustainable coffee

The company was founded in Sheffield in 2003, and believes that exceptional coffee should create tangible value for the producers behind it, and that principle continues to guide its work today. Cafeology’s sustainability

approach is strengthened through its adoption of the Regenified certification, an independently verified framework that measures genuine regenerative progress on farms. Certified Regenified focuses on clear, outcomes-based criteria focusing on healthier soils, improved biodiversity and reduced reliance on external inputs, giving customers confidence that regeneration is being delivered in practice, not just in principle. A central relationship aligned

with this commitment is Cafeology’s direct trade partnership with Costa Rican producer Roberto Mata, a sixth-generation farmer working across family-run estates in the Los Santos and Tarrazú regions. Roberto’s family has cultivated coffee for more than a century. His deep generational knowledge, combined with a longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship, makes his work a strong example of how regenerative principles can be embedded at origin. Cafeology purchases a significant proportion of Roberto’s annual crop each year,

providing income stability and reinforcing a relationship built on trust, respect and full traceability. Across Roberto’s estates, such

as Las Nubes, which is situated at approximately 1,700 metres (5,577ft) above sea level, practices associated with regeneration are part of the day-to-day management of the land. These include maintaining continuous soil cover, integrating shade from banana plants and poró trees, protecting local water sources and encouraging biodiversity throughout the landscape. Such methods help rebuild soil structure, improve microclimates and enhance ecological resilience, supporting both coffee quality and long-term farm health. The principles of Regenified

help frame and verify this work. By presenting coffees under the Regenified marque, Cafeology provides tangible assurance that improvements on farms like Roberto’s can be measured, monitored and communicated clearly to customers across the UK. Cafeology’s responsibility

continues through the rest of the supply chain. The opening of the Roastology Eco roastery in Sheffield in 2016 gave the business full oversight from green bean to finished product. Through precise, consistent roasting and transparent operational practices, Cafeology ensures that the quality achieved at

origin is faithfully carried through to every batch produced. Alongside this, the company continues to reduce emissions, minimise waste and improve efficiency across its UK operations as part of its long-term sustainability commitments. The company even ensures

Roberto’s coffee is transported by rail from the port to the freight terminal located half a mile from the Roastery, reducing carbon emissions substantially. For Cafeology’s

customers, choosing certified Regenified coffees represent more than exceptional flavour — it demonstrates direct

trade sourcing, environmental responsibility and careful stewardship from farm to cup. Each coffee reflects the dedication of Roberto’s work, Cafeology’s commitment to transparency and a shared ambition for a more resilient future for speciality coffee.
