Maqai Beach Eco Surf Resort QAMEA ISLAND, FIJI
Maqai Beach Eco Surf Resort is located off the beaten track in the Northern Islands of Fiji. The moment your feet hit the sand, you’re welcomed by the friendly staff with fresh coconut water and a smile. Guests reside in one of 10 beachfront bures nestled amid the coconut palms, where they’re gently woken by the waves lapping on the beach each morning. Whether you enjoy water activities, immersing
yourself in local culture, reconnecting with nature or simply relaxing, Maqai has something for everyone. The staff are very welcoming and attentive, ready to showcase the best of what Maqai has to offer. Experience local culture through daily activities, including garden tours, crab racing, coconut husking and basket weaving or even take a day trip to a local villages. Spend time exploring Qamea Island, home to mesmerising snorkelling and diving spots including Rainbow Reef, Shipwreck Bay and Michelle’s Reef, before enjoying lunch at Half Moon Bay. There are a range of hiking tracks close to Maqai, including a jungle hike and the challenging Lavena Coastal walk. Or, if you feel
like doing nothing for the day, grab your book and head for a hammock on the beach front with your favourite drink in hand. Experience some of the best surf breaks Fiji has
to offer, including the resort’s best-kept secret, just a five-minute boat trip out the front of the property. Located directly offshore, the surf break of the same name, Maqai, delivers world-class righthanders. If you prefer a left-hand break, Kavas is just a short distance across the pass from Maqai — a long wally lefthander that breaks in the southeasterly winds. Guests can head to the Sandbar for beautifully
prepared meals using seasonal produce from the island garden. In the evening, listen out for the beat of the island drum signifying dinner time. Once a week, guests are invited guests to partake in Lovu night, a traditional Fijian meal prepared in an underground oven. Following dinner, sit in on the local custom of kava drinking before taking front row seat to traditional dances. At the end of your stay, you will be sent off with a farewell song wishing you safe travels and a happy return to this little slice of paradise.
DON’T MISS Take a tour around the island enjoying vibrant snorkelling spots and a secluded beach picnic
