Music Week's UK and EU Radio Airplay chart based on RadioMonitor data ©. UK AIRPLAY ANALYSIS n BY ALAN JONES
Olly Murs has the radio airplay chart Wrapped Up this week, with his new single of that title (feat. Travie McCoy). One of the few songs to top the
radio airplay chart prior to making the Top 75 singles chart, Wrapped Up advances 2-1, exchanging positions with Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud. The gap between the top two
was the narrowest of the year, with Wrapped up polling an estimated audience of 76.56m from 4,333 plays, while Thinking Out Loud was aired 5,510 times but had a 0.12% smaller audience of 76.47m. Wrapped Up increased its plays
by 9.67% week-on-week, and its audience by 14.99%. It was aired 24 times on Radio 1 - nine times
more than the previous week, and a tally beaten only by the 26 airings the station gave to Kendrick Lamar’s I and Wretch 32’s 6 Words. It derived 18.36% of its audience from those plays but an even chunkier 29.04% of its audience from 15 plays on Radio 2, where Take That’s These Days (18 plays) and Bryan Ferry’s Loop De Li were the only tracks more favoured. Wrapped Up’s top tallies of between 49 and 45 plays were contributed by the 11 stations in the Capital Network. Sam Smith continues to have
two songs in the Top 10, with I’m Not The Only One remaining at No.8 and Stay With Me static at No.9. His new single, Like I Can, which debuts at No.9 on the

Official Charts Company chart has a lot of making up to do on the radio airplay chart, but makes a good start, vaulting 807 to 104, with a 346% increase in plays to 495 driving a 182.28% increase in audience to 6.49m. Expect further massive growth next week - but for the time being kudos to its biggest early supporters Eagle 3 (32 plays), Radio Jackie (25 plays) and SIBC (17 plays). There's only one change in the
Top 10 this week, with Jeremih’s Don’t Tell ‘Em (feat. YG) sliding 10-17 to be replaced on the bottom rung of the Top 10 by the returning Superheroes by The Script. The former No.1 inches up 11-10, and - for the moment at least - denies their follow-up No Good In Goodbye from making the Top 10. The latter track climbs 17-11, with a 37.27%
increase in plays to 2,154 helping to expand its audience by 19.17% to 35.47m. Its biggest supporters were - coincidentally - the same as Sam Smith’s Like I Can: Eagle 3 (43 plays), SIBC (31 plays) and Radio Jackie (27 plays), though KEY 103 also played it 27 times.
Olly Murs
Topping the TV airplay chart for
the sixth time in seven weeks, although airings of its promotional videclip dipped from 783 to 682 last week, Changing by Sigma feat. Paloma Faith had top tallies of 84 plays from Starz TV, 82 from Capital TV and 61 from The Box.
