ive months after the landmark 500th release on Norman Cook’s Southern Fried label – his own Fatboy Slim persona’s Dan Diamond collaboration


Role Model – topped the Upfront club chart, the legendary 61-year-old returns to the summit, this time with Bus Stop Please. Credited to Fatboy Slim & Daniel Steinberg, the final Upfront No.1 of 2024 builds on Albatross, an original instrumental by Berlin DJ and producer Steinberg. Publicity for the track describes it as “full-on…with chunky-bottomed grooves, gluey bass tones, modulating synths and an unforgettable vocal centrepiece”, and who am I to argue? Cook certainly gives it a dramatic workover – and that ‘vocal centrepiece’ actually consists of spoken word instructions on how to do The Bus Stop (a short-lived early 1980s dance craze) from a 1983 TV show called The Chicago Party, voxed by a “well-known Chicagoan among the party scene”, Charlie Green.

Fatboy Slim & Daniel Steinberg hit No.1 ANALYSIS


More than 24 years after Irish sibling quartet The Corrs’ only UK No.1 single, Breathless, the track has been transformed into a club banger and catapults 11-1 on the Commercial Pop club chart. Their first No.1 on that list, it comes 20 years after their last Commercial Pop chart entry, Summer Sunshine, peaked at No.9. Breathless’ new incarnation is serviced in mixes Fred Falke and (Keith) Warren. After three weeks at No.2 on the Black Music club chart, Fi Kan We Kan is No.1 for Bnxn and Rema. It is the first Black Music No.1 for Bnxn, while Rema has had five prior Black Music No.1s, most recently in 2021 with Soundgasm.
