Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line’s Gary Anslow hails Travel Weekly’s Agent Achievement Awards as the perfect opportunity to celebrate the trade, and reveals his love of an 80s floor-filler

Q.Why has NCL decided to sponsor this year’s AAAs? A. Travel agents deliver the lion’s share of our bookings and they are the key partner in our growth plans. The AAAs is the perfect opportunity to recognise the enormous contribution they make to our business. All of our field sales team will be there on the night, so it’s a great opportunity to meet agents old and new and say ‘thanks’.

GARY ANSLOW

Regional vice-president and head of UK and Ireland, Norwegian Cruise Line

Q. How has 2025 been so far? A. It’s been great. We welcomed more than 1,400 UK and Ireland agents on our first Prima Plus Class ship, Norwegian Aqua, in March and more than 1,000 UK and Ireland agents walked 106,000 miles as part of NCL’s second annual Walk for Wellness campaign in May, an initiative which encourages the industry to get out, get active and feel better as part of the W4W community. The run also raised £15,000 for industry charities ITAA Benevolent Fund and Abta LifeLine.

Q.What are your hopes for the rest of the year? A. We’re looking forward to welcoming more agents onto our ships, so they can immerse themselves in NCL’s ‘More at Sea’ and embrace the run-up to Norwegian Luna’s launch next year. There will be lots of exciting announcements in the next few months, so watch this space.

Q. How are you supporting agent partners? A. We’ve just added another member to the team, with Helen Warnes covering Scotland

and the northeast, so we will be able to visit and support more agents than ever before. With Richard in the northwest, Julie in the southeast, Laura in the southwest and Aaron in Ireland, we have everything covered – all supported by Laura’s agent training webinars and events. Oh, and then there are ship visits, Freestyle Rewards, online training and lots of new ships to sell!

Q.What are your fondest memories of the AAAs? A. Making Vernon Kay hide behind the curtain when we announced Katy Perry as Norwegian Prima’s godmother, and negotiating a cruise with Jordan North on stage. I also love seeing agents being recognised and rewarded, the joy on their faces as they go on stage – and their mates running up the aisle to film it.

Q.What was the last holiday you went on? A. Norwegian Joy out of New York – 15 days down to the Caribbean and then across to Bermuda. Everything about it was brilliant, both on the ship and the destinations we visited.

Q.What was the first holiday you went on? A. The Villa Rosa in St Julian’s Bay, Malta, in 1977. I was four but still have vivid memories – the hotel waterfall, the (sort of) beach, and some dodgy 1970s clothes.

Q. Next trip? A. A summer family holiday on Norwegian Epic, round-trip from Civitavecchia for 10 nights, with
