Greece: Credit for tourism plan

Story: Greece plans new rules for tourists this summer I applaud the Greeks for wishing to defend their own people and country. I seem to remember everyone playing hell in the UK that we were not checking inbound arrivals, so why should the Greeks not have their own rules to protect themselves? These social distance rules are not going away anytime soon, either here or in Greece. Ian Redpath

The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Refunds: Firms will fail and

the wait for cash will be long Story: Abta chairman warns over ‘unhelpful’ CMA probe Of course companies are breaking the law by not paying out refunds as per the Package Travel Regulations. One thing the travel world agrees on is that customers have a right to a refund. So how best can we do it? If a company has the resources to

pay refunds, it should do so. For companies which do not have the funds to hand, it is the [Refund Credit Note] route. Is there a government plan to help such companies in regard to refunds, such as soft loans repaid over a number of years? Alas not. Not good enough, some [customers] will cry, we want our money now. So the Atol and Abta [protections] will kick in. Alas we will lose some companies. I dread to think of the

numbers involved, but it could be a long wait for refunds. Patrick Doyle

Richard Slater’s Henbury Travel Agents @HenburyTravel Some operators have played a blinder & been quick to refund, others are still refusing. As a small agency owner, clients trust our operation, but it’s still hard having to say the operator we recommended to you is now holding your money until March 2021

Which?: Causing panic

Story: Which? calls on government to take action now to prevent travel firms failing It [the Which? campaign] has whipped up panic. Some clients have become enraged and intimidating with their language and ‘knowing their rights’. Again, it’s the agent at the bottom of the pile, working for nothing, taking the full force. Paul Philpott, Beacon Travel

BA: Gatwick plan ‘is sense’

Story: British Airways ‘may not operate at Gatwick after pandemic’ Makes sense really. Consolidate at Heathrow, where they really don’t want to lose slots. Ride it out from Heathrow and potentially start the return to Gatwick as demand returns. Gatwick is likely to have space available for a while to come. Sad news, though. Mark Godden, Cruise Circle
