Kevin and Spencer

After being diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa (also known as tunnel vision) at the age of just fourteen, Kevin soon discovered he was not only losing his sight, but his confidence and independence too. However, this all changed when he was partnered with his first guide dog, Spencer.

“With Spencer by my side, I can go visit my daughter and granddaughter, but sometimes I just find myself walking for the sake of walking!”

“You don’t realise how lovely it is to do something by yourself when you’ve relied on others for so long.”

“It’s very rare that someone doesn’t stop and talk to me & Spencer, I’ve gained a lot of friends since I’ve had him.”

Spencer became more than just Kevin’s guide, he is also a dear companion and with him by his side Kevin’s confidence returned. He now enjoys sharing his journey with others as a speaker for Guide Dogs as well as regularly walking his grandchildren to school!
