When an international student has an enquiry about their visa or programme

What should you be aware of?

Most of our international students have a Tier 4 Student Visa. This means that Middlesex University has agreed to sponsor them during their studies. The licence issued by UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) requires the University to demonstrate compliance with conditions of this licence. Failure to comply with these conditions could result in a revocation of the licence and the loss of our ability to recruit international students and staff. Every member of staff has a responsibility to ensure that we adhere to the requirements of our licence.

If a student has problems attending, wishes to take time off during term time, has financial difficulties, wants to change programme or mode of studies or is unsure about working in the UK, please refer them to the relevant student support service (see Key Contacts page 76). This is a complicated area and is subject to change so it is always recommended to seek advice about the student’s circumstances. If a student fails to follow the correct procedures and inform the correct services, they may be withdrawn from their course or not allowed back into the country – regardless of their academic ability. Obviously, we are keen to support and retain our international students – without jeopardising our sponsor status –so it is essential that you refer them to the correct support service as soon as possible.
