When a student needs free, confidential advice independent of the University (Students’ Union)
What should you look out for?
The MDXSU Advice Service offers free, confidential advice which is independent of the University, provided in a friendly, professional and non-judgemental manner. Trained advisors are here to advise students on academic issues and to support them in understanding the University regulations and to make informed choices.
Advice can be provided where students have:
— complaints against the University
— appeals against a University decision, including grades
— allegations of Academic Misconduct including plagiarism
— disciplinaries instigated against them by the University

What happens next?
Students can expect to be provided with:
— free, non-judgemental, confidential and independent advice
— help to understand the University regulations and procedures relevant to their issue and the range of options available
— politeness, professionalism and respect from all staff
— fair and equal treatment for all students
— as much advice and assistance as we are able to provide. However, there will be times when the student’s problem does not have a solution, or we can no longer assist them.
The MDXSU Student Advice team cannot:
— make decisions for, or represent students in hearings
— give students legal advice
— advise students if they are receiving advice from another service (including solicitors or lawyers)
— continue to work with students if they are aggressive, abusive, or display inappropriate behaviour or appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol
