When a student is considering changes to their programme, course transfer, or withdrawal from studies (temporarily or permanently)
What should you be aware of?
Students may approach you to discuss the possibility of changing to another programme, temporarily withdrawing from their studies (taking time out) or permanently withdrawing (leaving university before completion). Please be aware that time restrictions may apply. Whilst you can support students as they come to a decision about their future, once they have decided to take that step, they must follow the formal procedures through the Progression and Support Team. This team will discuss their request to make changes to their programme and will guide and support them through the entire process, keeping relevant stakeholders informed of any developments and outcomes.
What should you do?
Changes to programme
If a student wishes to change their programme, please direct them to the “Request to Change Programme” online form, available via UniHub here: http://wgfp-prrw02.mdx.ac.uk:8001/staticforms/RequestToChangeProgramme.aspx This form will be sent directly to the relevant Progression and Support Advisors, who will guide and support the student through the process, ensuring programme leader permission is granted, as well as ensuring any entry requirements are met and/or transfer of credit to the new programme. Issues such as visa requirements and financial implications will also be covered through this process.
Change of Mode
If a student wishes to change their mode of study (part-time/full-time), please direct them to the “Request to Change Mode” online form, available via UniHub here: http://wgfp-prrw02.mdx.ac.uk:8001/staticforms/RequestToChangeProgramme.aspx - This form will be sent directly to the relevant Progression and Support Advisors, who will guide and support the student through the process, ensuring any visa, financial or funding implications are presented to the student before finalising any changes. Please note: a student cannot change to a Thick Sandwich programme until they have approval from the MDXworks team.
Withdrawal from studies (Temporary or Permanent)
If a student wishes to withdraw temporarily (interrupt) or withdraw permanently from their studies, in the first instance please ask the student to submit the ‘request to withdraw’ form which can be found here: - http://unihub.mdx.ac.uk/support/withdrawal. A Progression & Support Advisor will then contact the student to discuss their request and explore any support options that may prevent them from permanently withdrawing. If and when a student does permanently withdraw, an exit interview will be conducted to gather data on why they are withdrawing in order to prevent future withdrawals for similar circumstances, where possible.
If a student is unable or unwilling to submit any of the online forms above, please refer them to Progression and Support Advisors using our referral form.
Placement
Any placement enquiries must be directed to the MDXworks team, ideally via the ‘Expression of Interest’ form on the MDXworks myUniHub page. Placements can only be approved by the team and students are not allowed to start work without the approval after speaking with the MDXworks team.
