Turning heads for assisted showering

H

orne shower panels are designed specifically to withstand challenging environments: the aluminium

extrusion casing, anodised and epoxy -coated, is stable and robust for a maximised lifespan. Shower head and control components are highly durable; chromium-plated stamped brass, die-cast zinc and stainless steel are tolerant of accidental, or intentional abuse. The extensive range serves sport and leisure to acute healthcare,

residential care, a

variety of assisted showering applications, to secure facilities, as well as highly specialised niche applications.

Responding to a series of requests from Occupational Therapists (OTs) and care professionals, Horne has created a new range of dual-outlet (featuring a fixed vandal resistant (VR) shower head and a flexible hose with shower handset) models for assisted showering. Specifically requesting a diverter valve that is manually,

rather than automatically, operated to switch flow

between the VR head and the handset, OTs predict that assisting challenging clients to shower will be easier to manage and reduce the risk and severity of escalation behaviours. The range includes a wall-mounted riser rail, available in white/grey, and dementia and sight-loss friendly deep orange/grey. It doubles as a robust and supportive grab rail and features an inclusive-design, BS 8300 compliant, handset holder. Its unique design, with precision fishing-reel technology, allows for exceptionally easy movement of the carriage, yet retains a tight holding grip once at the user’s optimum position. Matching grab rails are available if required. A pipe cover is included and is available in two lengths, to accommodate for different ceiling heights: 465 mm (T4 coding) and 940 mm (T9). As a security cover, it protects the internal ILTDU thermal disinfection unit (for waterborne pathogen control) whilst still providing key access for its operation. The pipe cover also improves installation

aesthetics and shower hygiene, being easier to clean than exposed pipework. More info at b.link/Included. Architects,

OTs and residential care providers can see the new range at Stand J56 at The OT Show, NEC, 22-23 November 2023.
