STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS Triton Systems for listed farmhouse extension

Products from the range of Triton Systems have been used to waterproof a semi-buried single storey extension to an old listed farmhouse, with the specialist sub-contractor involved being a long-term customer of the manufacturer for its work across the South-East. The current contract features the use of Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) to construct the 30 metre long curving walls which have then been protected by Archer Specialist Treatments, using Triton’s EX100 membrane and Double Drain barrier to direct groundwater into a land drain around the base. Triton fi llet was also used at the  oorwall junction to prevent moisture penetrating the joint. aul Halliwell, a Chartered Builder and Director of Archer Specialist Treatments, commented: “This has been a relatively routine project for us  waterproofi ng a retaining wall  so we did not need to call on Triton Systems for design assistance on this occasion, but we do get very good support from our area sales manager, Steve West: which is one of the reasons I’ve stuck with the company for so long as our supplier of waterproofi ng systems. Archer Treatments is a family run business which has been trading successfully for 35 years – working from Chichester on the South Coast across to Canterbury and taking in much of London. In the two decades or more we’ve been using Triton, we have come to depend on the product range’s quality and reliability for all types of residential projects in different ground conditions.”

The construction of a truly individual new home in West Sussex is making use of Marmox Thermoblocks to tackle the issue of cold bridging, both around the building perimeter and to protect the ground  oor slab where it spans a substantial basement structure, containing both the plant room and a wine cellar. The six-bedroom and fi ve-bathroom dwelling is being built by rangewood Southern td. on behalf of a private developer, with Fusion Brickwork being the specialist sub-contractor responsible for installing the 140 mm wide version of the Marmox Thermoblocks as part of an unusual wall construction, which features an inner and outer leaf of concrete blockwork faced with random natural stonework. Some 250 of the 600 mm long by 100 mm deep composite units have been installed using the Marmox 360 sealant to secure the overlapping end joints. The roject Manager for rangewood Southern, Alex Hall, commented: “I hadn’t personally used Thermoblocks before, but they are very easy to install and offer very good loadbearing capabilities. With a high insulation value and an amazing compressive strength, they are ideal for carrying the dense blockwork and also forming the top course of the basement which occupies about one third of the total ground  oor, which is 2 metres long by 1 metres wide.”
