ven before Hugh Pizey and Karen eruson bouht a house to conert in the Conseration illae of uchlie near tirlin, cotland in  the had the foresiht to contact the local plannin department e lied the location and the arden, aren recalls, oweer, the house itself needed a lot of wor and we new that could be tric in a conseration area Fortunately, the planners advised that it would be possible to renoate but care would need to be taen around the heiht of an extensions ith the reen liht ien, the couple set about findin an architect and builder compan to tae their proect forward he cast their net around Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh and took on board soundings from friends who had experience with similar proects oader onteith was a practice that came hihl recommended, and uh and aren added them to their shortlist e met with four architects and our meetin with att oader was reat, with ideas and setches helpin us to shape possibilities hat was the decision made, uh remembers n terms of choosin a buildin compan, Hugh and Karen opted to go with Las Construction, a compan that had wored with oader onteith on preious proects his proect was a step up from our preious experiences of home improement, aren explains he option of oader onteith manain the proect was a er attractie one, especiall as the had wored with as before he couple briefed oader onteith that the wanted to connect the house to the arden and reener outside the liin space he wanted to bring in more natural light as the

downstairs was very dark, and they also wanted a new heating system, sealed windows and a contemporar itchen with a natural feel he downstairs shower room needed modernising and a study area was required in the main liin space so that their children could do their homewor within a famil space he main aim of the renoations was to connect the house to the lare arden one of the windows or doors opened or looked out onto the arden t didnt feel lie it was part of the home, sas aren

After their visit, Loader Monteith’s suggestion was not only to add an extension, but to re- oranise the oriinal round oor of the house so that it had a clear front door and bac door his plan also allowed the introduction of a small shower room, utilit space and an area for the heat pump and bin store at the side of the propert he new itchen would replace the oriinal, cramped dinin room in the centre of
