hen the iconic property in Chesterfi eld went on the market, couple James and Rebecca knew it was the right proect for them. Built in  by the inentor of stainless steel, arry Brearley, the house was in need of some loe. Brearley purchased the site at the end of the irst World War, and the si bedroom home now sits on more than an acre of spectacular gardens. The couple, haing always lied in Chesterfi eld, were aware of the house and its famous preious occupant, so they umped at the chance when they discoered it was up for sale. James said Wee always liked proects, this was the most unloed property on the street that needed some well-desered TLC They initially thought the proect would take - months to complete, there isnt a suare inch of the property or grounds that haent been refurbished or modifi ed in some way, therefore  months went into two years t cost twice as much as we thought and took twice as long, but we wanted it done a certain way to ensure we achieed the perfect result. James and Rebecca knew that it woulde been far simpler and cost-effectie to knock the house down and start again, but didnt want to add to the throwaway society we

unfortunately now lie in. We loe old buildings, classic cars, antiues etc. This house was built in an era where uality mattered and there were no time or cost constraints. ts a solid property, built by a world-famous engineer, so m sure no corners were cut. ts nice to be able to bring a property back to life and restore it. Wee ended up with something uniue, well-built and has history to it. The couple wanted to maimize the garden without blocking any of the

incredible iew, so they decided on a glass balustrade system from -railing. By utilising the eisting terraces, seating and dining areas were created and framed in glass. Wee used the -Railing brand for oer  years as they are the Rolls Royce of balustrade systems said James. Backed up with a fantastic technical support team, along with a professional serice throughout the design and installation process. Taking on a renoation proect of this size can be daunting, and James had the following adice ae a Plan, but keep this updated each week. The proect will eole as the works progress, and youll hae new ideas on designs etc. Lie and breathe it, early mornings, late nights, weekends, eery spare hour you hae  take the time to hae a coffee and walk round the property, you might hae another idea. Look as far forward as you possibly can  remember, if we can predict the future, it helps us to take the right steps now. nd whateer your budget it, double it. Wee learnt, buy cheap  buy twice nd fi nally, lways keep positie some days are better than others. When its complete though, youll feel a huge sense of accomplishment and youll be battled hardened ready for the net one
