14 INDUSTRY NEWS SITE VISIT

Samsung training centre supports Future Homes Standard compliance

Housebuilder & Developer’s Kim Neville recently visited Samsung’s Climate Solutions new training centre in Chertsey to explore innovations in decarbonising housing.

She reported: “From the outside, the building appears modest, but inside it houses fi rst-class training facilities to support specifi cation for Future Homes Standard-compliant homes. Samsung’s commitment to training and upskilling heat pump installers and engineers is clear – and is a key investment towards addressing the industry wide skills shortage.” The centre has been designed to provide a comfortable and inviting environment to learn and develop skills. The visit began with a tour viewing Samsung’s latest smart-technology equipped heat pump models, including the Mono and TDM systems. Kim continued: “Scott Young (national training manager at Samsung Climate Solutions), demonstrated not only the technology but also the organisation’s enthusiasm and deep technical knowledge – both of which were truly contagious.” She added: “Samsung’s dedication to innovation was evident throughout the visit, with a comprehensive range of products designed to support both commercial and residential projects.” The company has put sustained focus on reducing emissions and harnessing the upcoming Future Homes Standard (FHS) as a key platform. “I spoke with Andrew Faulkner, head of commercial at Samsung Climate Solutions and we delved into how Samsung is assisting developers as they prepare for the FHS. Like the whole industry, Samsung is eagerly awaiting further government clarifi cation on the details of

the standard itself, including the impact on specifi cation of heat pumps. Neville added: “Andrew also provided a more detailed explanation of Samsung’s all-in one heating, cooling and hot water TDM system, highlighting that as climate change increasingly impacts on UK homes, warmer summers will mean cooling is likely to become a standard feature in UK homes. He noted that Samsung has already observed a rise in demand for not only heating but cooling solutions since the Covid-19 pandemic, a trend that appears set to continue; its TDM system supports both heating and cooling operations.”

She discovered how Samsung is already collaborating with developers and aims to deepen its existing partnerships in the sector via its One Samsung approach. This enables a fully-integrated smart home, controlled via the SmartThings ro app. It has the key benefi t of allowing devices from other manufacturers to be managed within the same system.” At the end of her visit Neville heard that

the fi rst set of pupils for Samsung’s Heat Pump Installer Training course was due to start on the site later that week.

for “ensuring technical matters are fully considered, clearly communicated and aligned with the wider business from the outset,” said Dandara. “He works closely with the regional leadership team to streamline processes, support consistency and create “a smoother pathway from land bid to onsite delivery.” “A key priority for James is strengthening the region’s early stage review processes, particularly during land bids, introducing structured gateways to improve clarity and reduce delays. He said his approach is rooted in proactive problem solving and involving all stakeholders early so projects can move forward.” Trained as an architect, Warner commented: “the ability to shape whole developments rather than single buildings is what fi rst drew me into housebuilding, and continues to be the driver behind my career.”

Dandara South East continues to expand its landbank and portfolio of high-quality homes across Kent and East Sussex, supported by investment in its technical, commercial and construction teams to strengthen long-term resilience and performance.
