PREFACE Réalta Litriú is an adaptable, graded and full-colour stand-alone


series of spelling books as Gaeilge designed for use with all of the main Gaeilge texts. Réalta Litriú uses a wide range of vocabulary (nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.) which the children will meet at each class level. Competence and understanding are achieved through daily lessons, regular revision and assessment.


How to use this book Learn: A unit covers a week’s learning; new material and


activities are introduced on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.


Revise: The Thursday page in each unit revises and consolidates the new work covered from Monday to Wednesday, and applies the week’s work to a selection of activities. Each Thursday page contains a self-assessment section for children to assess their learning from the week, in advance of their Friday test.


Continuous assessment: Friday is a test day. Pupils can record their Friday spelling tests on pages 106−109. Pupils can also record a summary of their Thursday revision tests and revision chapter assessment scores on page 110.


Further revision: There are regular look-back units throughout the books in addition to the Thursday revision page in each unit.

Look: Look at the word. Say: Say the word out loud. Cover: Cover the word. Write: Write the word (while it’s covered). Check: Check if the word you wrote down is correct!


Focail/Frásaí breise: Supports differentiation by encouraging children to record other related words and phrases which may arise during weekly lessons.


Tástáil thú féin!: Each Thursday page contains a look-back section which allows the children to revise the newly learned vocabulary prior to their Friday test.


Self-assessment: Each Thursday page contains a self-assessment section for children to assess their learning from the week, in advance of their Friday test.


Tips! • The relevant spellings should be practised daily.


• Each day’s learning of spellings and written work should ideally take 10−15 minutes per day.
