hether you are visiting for a few days, or a local, we are very pleased to have you here. The Dart is a stunning river, and I
would encourage you to spend some time exploring up river – we are truly one river with 8 different destinations, each with their own character – from quaint riverside pubs, to Agatha Christie’s Greenway, to the alternative culture of Totnes. To make it easier we’ve recently installed new visitor buoys at Galmpton and at the entrance to Bow Creek – both beautifully tranquil spots to moor. Enjoy the delights of Dartmouth as well – we have a new app to help you discover what’s on offer.
My team are here to look aſter you – just ask if you need assistance. New for 2026 – we now allow pre-booking of visitors berths via our website at
www.dartharbour.org/visitors. But we’re keeping plenty of space available for on the day arrivals, so our old promise that we never turn anyone away still holds strong.
As Harbour Master I do need to encourage you to use the river safely. I always have my lifejacket on

Management Team The management team at Dart Harbour are headed up by Paul Britton, our CEO/Harbour Master, supported by:
whenever I go afloat and I urge you to do so too. We now have children’s buoyancy aids available for free day hire from the Harbour Office, so there is no excuse! Please also respect the 6-knot speed limit, and navigate your vessel with caution. We recently prosecuted a skipper who was travelling far over the speed limit, with the magistrates court fining him over £4500 including costs. Had he had a collision the consequences would have been far worse. We are also all responsible to keep this beautiful place as pristine as nature intended. Dispose of your litter (including cigarette butts) responsibly, avoid using marine toilets in the river, and give seals and other wildlife space to enjoy the river too!

River Team Regular patrols are made by river staff to enable the efficient allocation of visitors’ moorings, to collect harbour dues and mooring fees and to monitor river safety, including adherence to byelaws. These officers also play a key role in infrastructure maintenance throughout the year.
Yacht Taxi Drivers Dart Harbour Yacht Taxi Drivers provide a year-round Yacht Taxi Service to river users (see page 2 for operating times).
