SHORE 2 SHORE 16–23 JUNE VARIOUS LOCAL BOOKSHOPS ACROSS THE COUNTRY


Following the hugely successful first jaunt in 2016, poetry tour Shore 2 Shore is returning for Independent Bookshop Week this year. Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy will accompany Gillian Clarke, Imtiaz Dharker and Jackie Kay, along with musical MC John Sampson. They will cross the country to visit and perform in nine independent bookshops, and will be joined at each one by a local poet. Off the Shelf: A Celebration of Bookshops in Verse will be published by Picador in paperback on 14 June 2018.


ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS OF THE INDEPENDENT BOOKSHOP INNOVATION AWARD 10 SEPTEMBER 2018 BOOKSELLERS ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE


As part of the celebrations for its 175th anniversary, Pan Macmillan has launched a competition for independent booksellers across the UK and Ireland in which seven independent bookshops will each be awarded £1,750 to launch a new and innovative project in their store, with projects focusing around community outreach or supporting new readers particularly encouraged. Submissions for the award are now open, with a deadline of 18 May for ideas. A shortlist of stores will be announced on 15 June, ahead of Independent Bookshop Week, with winners announced at the Booksellers Association Conference dinner in Birmingham on 10 September.

Scottish brothers Daniel and Alexander Macmillan published their first books 175 years ago next month. The success of their publishing house was built on their generous, intelligence and passion, evidenced through their letters to authors including Thomas Hardy, Lewis Carroll, Christina Rossetti and Alfred Lord Tennyson. Join some of Pan Macmillan’s greatest writers today to hear this correspondence brought to life from the collection at the British Library.
