The Bestseller Charts Analysis
to average spring levels. Perhaps the British public was too busy shivering in pub gardens for the first time since December to crack on with its lockdown reading. At 3.1 million books sold for £26.6m, though, it was the biggest Week 16 since 2011 in volume terms and
the most lucrative since 2008 in value terms, and 4.8% up in value on the same week in 2019. This is also coupled with a fairly low- selling bestseller chart—Hamnet last week became the second title to claim the number one spot with fewer than 20,000 copies sold since the pandemic began (in weeks Nielsen was able to provide sales figures), following on from Lee and Andrew Child’s lockdown-era The Sentinel in the
second week of April. It appears that strength in depth is driving print growth, rather than a stand- out bestseller.

Heatseekers Fiction
The Heatseekers charts are compiled using titles by authors who have not appeared in The Official UK Top 50 since Nielsen BookScan records began. As such, they reveal books that are selling well, but not well enough to make the
overall list in a seven-day period. For more Heatseekers charts, visit
thebookseller.com.
