A preview of new titles published between August 2020–July 2021
The lockdown across the country has not just been about doom and gloom— for some, it has been an opportunity to learn new skills or rediscover old ones

gain, this year, the theme of sustainabilit and wellbeing in all its forms is a key element of many of the titles that were submited. What is clear is that many more titles bridge and indeed stretch the categories, with the lines becoming increasingly blurred. I think, more than anything, there is a greater sense of the interconnected nature of things. So what many gardeners, craſters and designers already knew, many more of us are now discovering. That your house is not just a building, your garden not just lawn to sit on and craſt is so much more than just a hobby. For those who may have spent more (or indeed all) of their
time in lockdown confined to their house (and garden if they had one) there may have been a discovery—or rediscovery—of the joys and benefits of some of these activities. Many of those people may now look to books to help them sustain that joy. So I hope you and your customers enjoy these titles—the practical, the beautiful, the quirky, the useful and the inspirational —and that they bring comfort and joy to your life.

Jo Wittingham Grow Easy Veg DK, 18th March, £9.99, PB, 9780241458594
This practical, easy to use guide to growing veg is perfect for first time garden- ers. It’s part of the new Grow series, and it is DK doing what it does best—providing clear and useful expert information in a clear and attractive format. As one of the many who have taken up veg gardening during lockdown (albeit with mixed success!) this is exactly what I need. Look out for other titles too—I particularly like Grow Eco-Gardening (97802414586170) and Grow Containers (9780241435823). A great new series to help your garden (and your sales) grow.
Gardening Frances Tophill
Rewild Your Garden Quercus, 20th August, £15, HB, 9781529410259
Rewilding is a big trend—and quite rightly so. Frances Tophill shows us how to use the best plants and the most sustainable techniques to create a haven for birds, bees, butterflies and other types of wildlife—whatever the size of your outdoor space. As a regular presenter on “Gardeners’ World”, and a passionate conservationist, Frances is well placed to help us all create a beautiful, eco- friendly garden that gives a little something back to the planet. Both practical and beautiful, this book would also make a perfect gift for any gardener.
Craft Eilidh Gallagher
Green Christmas Bloomsbury, 1st October, £10.99, HB, 9781526628343
We are all becoming increas- ingly “environmentally aware” but—let’s face it—Christmas is the time of year when making green decisions can often be low on our extremely long “to do” lists. With easy to follow tips for a more sustainable festive season this book will show you how to create your own advent calendar, upcycle, recycle, cut back and create more. This is for anyone who has experienced that sinking feeling of the post-gift giving clear-up, bin bag in hand (or the overwhelming stress and unease of the constant shopping involved to get to that moment).
Craft
