A later publication has worked for David Walliams’ latest, which tops the chart again— but Charlie Mackesy is gaining ground as Christmas nears

or a third week running, David Walliams claims the Official UK Top 50 crown,


with The Beast of Buckingham Palace selling 103,949 copies through Nielsen BookScan’s TCM. The Tony Ross-illustrated title was published on 21st November, later than Walliams’ usual Christmas-giſt-period release date, and the shorter time on the shelves seems to have given The Beast of Buckingham Palace extra-concentrated sales. Aſter three weeks, it is 16.5% up in volume on 2018’s The Ice Monster, and 17% up on 2017’s Bad Dad at the same point in their lives. At 334,922 copies sold so far in total, it rises to eighth in the 2019 bestsellers chart, and completes a hat-trick at the top
