Before performing a colonoscopy on my patient, an 81-year-old woman suffering with abdominal pain, I’d talked her through the risks.


I removed a polyp and biopsied three further polyps using hot diathermy forceps. A few hours aſter returning home, my patient was rushed to the emergency department in severe pain. An emergency laparotomy revealed and repaired a perforation to the right colon. A few weeks later, she brought a case of clinical negligence against me.
