IDSc Preview 2025


Decontamination at IHSS. He has worked for IHSS since 1999 after working for several years in the NHS in the field of decontamination. Since joining IHSS Dean has held several positions from Operational Management, General Management, Quality and Technical Lead for national decontamination projects. In recent years he has concentrated on the technical and regulatory elements of the business as Technical Director before moving to Director of Decontamination in November 2023. He is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of decontamination from facilities, services, and processes within the organisation, ensuring an efficient and safe decontamination service is provided. Dean currently is the Director of Governance and Vice Chairman of the Institute of Decontamination Sciences and will take up the position of National Chairman in November 2025, representing and promoting the IDSc at national and international meetings and events. Other board changes include:


l Jack Waters has been appointed as Director of Governance (November 2025)


l Sharon Fox has been appointed as Director of Education (April 2025)


l Simon Lambert has been appointed as Director of Finance (April 2026)


This will ensure a smooth transition. “I’m proud of what we have achieved over the


past three years. I would like to personally thank the directors in working with me, during my tenure, to stabilise and implement significant changes to the IDSc. Together, we have ensured it is recognised as a proactive and influential Institute, where national bodies approach for advice and information. “I also want to thank the Council


representatives from each branch who attend the Board and Council meetings who have represented the members and worked with the Board in making decisions that have taken the IDSc forward and ensured it is in a stable footing.


“I am excited to see how the culmination of all these efforts are raising the profession on the national stage as a respected and recognised healthcare science. Dean Burand joins the IDSc as Chairman at a very exciting time in our history.”


IDSc conference and exhibition The IDSc has also been developing a packed programme for the 2025 annual congress. Taking place from November 24 to November 26, 2025, at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole. The theme of this year’s event is: ‘The importance of continuous education and training for Decontamination Professionals.’ The programme includes:
