INTRODUCTION

RFID AT SCANSOURCE

Once upon a time, back in the early years of this millennium, around 2004, Wal-Mart started a pilot with 20 of its top suppliers. Their products would be delivered with RFID chips on the pallets and in the cases. This would be the start of something new. Since that moment, we’ve been waiting…and waiting…and waiting… In the industry, it’s been a running joke that “next year will be the year of RFID”.

It has taken longer than expected for RFID to find its way and prove its place in delivering solutions, into areas where barcode identification faced challenges.

In the beginning, RFID was very ‘niche’ and expensive compared to the booming markets, where barcodes evolved from linear to 2D/ QR, stacked, GS1 codes and barcode readers developed from ccd over laser to imagers, reading more aggressively and quickly from poor or damaged codes, from long range, omnidirectionally, in HD and multi-colour and from different style barcode (surfaces).

Could RFID’s moment now have arrived? Over the years, we at ScanSource have always been monitoring RFID. We have continued to watch and to listen and have identified an increasing need and readiness for resellers and vendors to invest in this technology. With RFID, you are able to differentiate yourself and leverage your business towards this new core specialty in a more competitive AutoID market. As markets and users evolve and drive towards consumerization, where standard scanners and mobile barcode reading handheld computers and printers become available for everybody, we recognise the need to protect your company

against the increasing number of competitors and help you stay ahead of them.

Including RFID technology in your company’s offering can help you drive new and more specialty solutions, identify new markets and customers, whilst leave behind the broadline IT reselling competition and reclaim your spot with renewed confidence, generating higher margins and better profit.

To help you be successful in the RFID world, ScanSource has been building and extending relationships with the leading brands in this industry. We can provide easy access to their RFID products and solutions, with that same familiar way of doing business that you already know.

With this RFID-focused catalogue, we’re delighted to present you with a fantastic range of well-known vendors, plus some dedicated new brands: think of this as your ‘one stop shop’ for RFID, an additional opportunity alongside the products and solutions your currently purchase from ScanSource.

If you would like to get more info on how to take your first steps in the world of RFID, how to try a different approach or how to further develop your RFID business, our RFID vendors and our team at ScanSource (from technical support to business development and sales) is committed to removing potential barriers and looking forward to helping you succeed.

Now is the time to think about onboarding RFID – before everybody else does.
