Large PET recycling plant opens in Latvia


Iterum, formerly PET Baltija, has opened a new PET recycling plant in Olaine, Latvia, at a cost of around €35m. The new 40,000 m² facility has a planned processing capacity of 80,000 tonnes/yr, around 30% more than its previous plant in Jelgava, making it one of the largest in northern Europe. Cabka, a manufacturer of containers and recycled plastic pallets, has installed two Lindner Micromat HP shredders at its site in Weira, Germany where mixed plastics from various fractions are processed along with additional materials such as caps and labels. Getac in for the long haul with Sony firm


Getac is to incorporate Sorplas recycled material from Sony Semi- conductor Solutions into its range of premium rugged laptops and tablets. The material is recycled from used water bottles and waste optical discs collected from factories and markets. Sorplas is claimed to be incredibly durable, even in high-temper-


atures and humid environments, as well as lending itself to aesthetic considerations. The first successful integration of the material into Getac products came earlier this year with the launch of the S510, marketed as the world’s first AI-ready rugged laptop. James Hwang, President of Getac Technology, said that using Sorplas in its rugged devices is the latest step on Getac’s sustainabil- ity path and it will work closely with Sony Semiconductor Solutions to bring it to more of its products and solutions going forward. � www.getac.com � www.sony-semicon.com
