Right: Vecoplan’s new VIZ range can reliably shred a wide range of plastics materials

als such as sheets or pipes, are claimed to be significant.

LKR says that mechanical recycling requires specialist knowledge, not least about the various types of polymers. Besides classic purges from injection moulding machines, other parts also need to be recycled, such as pipes or profile sections, punching waste and various plastic types. The Micromat series shredder with Multiplex cutting system was specifically developed for shredding a wide range of materials at high output rates. Due to the unit’s geometry, the rotor knives actively pull in the material. Combined with a powerful drive, this ensures up to 40% higher throughput for the same machine size – virtually irrespective of the type of plastic being shredded. “When producing high quality, homogenous

recyclates, productivity and the flexibility of the equipment are key,” says Jan-Hendrik Wilming, CEO at LKR. “This is why we at LKR have been using Lindner machines for a very long time. Now, with the Micromat’s innovative cutting system, we have been able to significantly increase throughput once again, even with tough materials, and without having to switch to a larger shredder.” Vecoplan has developed the Vecoplan Infinity (VIZ) line of shredders, which offer high efficiency and are particularly flexible in terms of cutting geometry. The company says that the machines can be precisely adapted to different input and output requirements by changing the rotors and blades and by selecting the right screen. They also provide good reliability, low operating costs and maximum throughput. “Our VIZ series offers a universal solution for all

kinds of input materials,” says Martina Schmidt, Head of Vecoplan’s Recycling and Waste Division. “Companies that recycle plastics nowadays have to deal with a wide variety of materials. There are almost no limits when it comes to characteristics, colour and form. The machine manufacturer therefore puts a strong emphasis on flexibility when it comes to cutting geometry. The machines can be precisely adapted to different input and output requirements by changing the rotors and blades and by selecting the right screen. The performance can be precisely adapted to the interface.”

She continues: “Our new rotor solution offers

numerous advantages. Thanks to the bolted tool holder plates with variable cutting tip sizes, rotor changes are now a thing of the past. Users only have to exchange the plates to quickly adapt the cutting geometry to different output grain sizes. The rotor remains in the machine. Even cutting tip

changes can be carried out with ease – there is no need to touch the rotor. If a tool holder is damaged, only the relevant segment has to be replaced.” The design of the machine allows users to choose between the HiTorc drive with its powerful start-up phase and high torque, or the ESC, Vecoplan’s frequency-controlled, belt-driven direct drive – both with high energy efficiency. “The VIZ is based on our extensive experience in the shred- ding of plastics, which has enabled us to meet a wide range of customer requirements,” adds Schmidt. “In addition, Vecoplan has optimised the ram and revised the machine design. Thanks to the improved ram height, the VIZ can now handle entire bales. The working chamber of the machine was also enlarged, permitting reliable shredding of bales with models 1300 and higher. In a compara- ble Vecoplan model range this is possible only with sizes 1700 and higher, although the smaller version would have the necessary throughput.” Users can also equip the machine with a second counter knife. Other advantages arise from the machine’s clear design: the VIZ is easier to clean, and the newly designed ram is closer to the rotor, thus reducing material residues. Vecoplan has also developed a new mainte- nance panel user interface. It is designed in such a way that all the work processes at the shredders can be handled intuitively by employees, who can also use the control panel to go online and access the
