Some of the big trends you'll see this year include foods that are good for us and the planet, plant-based foods, and “functional” foods (think "food as medicine.")
Good-for-the-planet foods: Products are now eager to tell you their story—where they came from, how they were made, and why they are sustainable. How can I eat for better brain health?
There's good evidence that dietary and lifestyle factors play an important role in brain health, even more so than genetic and environmental factors. Try the three-prong approach, which is water, Omega-3s, and antioxidants.
Water: Did you know a 3-4% decline in body hydration is immediately felt by the brain, slowing cognitive perfor- mance? Make 6-8 glasses of water your daily minimum.
Omega-3 fatty acids: These aid in brain function and development. Since your body can’t make them, you have to eat them! Add flaxseeds, chia seeds, black walnuts, and seafood to your weekly meal plan.
Antioxidants: These vital compounds reduce cellular stress and inflammation, which are linked to brain aging and neurodegenerative disorders. Antioxidants are found in colorful foods like fruits and veggies, specifically blue fruits and veggies!
