Maritime courses for professionals and newcomers alike

In Spring 2010, MARIN, in keeping with tradition, will organise two courses:

“Hydrodynamics of Floating Offshore Structures”, March 22-26, 2010 (5 days) In this course the emphasis will be on the hydrodynamic and aerodynamic aspects relevant to optimising the design of mono- hulls, semi-submersibles, mooring layouts and DP systems.

“Ship Hydrodynamics I, March 8-12, 2010 (5 days) Various hydrodynamic aspects of the design (resistance, propulsion, manoeuvring

and seakeeping) will be presented during this course in a balanced and integrated way.

Both courses are suitable for existing professionals and for newcomers in the maritime industry. Participants should have a university degree in naval architecture, ocean engineering, equivalent education or experience.

For detailed course information and regis- tration please contact Joke van der Beijl, +31 317 49 33 23 / courses@marin.nl. Or visit www.marin.nl/Courses.htm.

Cooperative Research Ships celebrates 40th Anniversary

Cooperative Research Ships (CRS) celebrates its 40th Anniversary this year. CRS is a group of 22 companies that jointly carry out applied research in the field of ship hydrodynamics and related areas, such as design, economy and operational per- formance. Members comprise shipyards, suppliers, operators, navies, classification societies and research institutes. Over the past four decades, CRS has proven to be a

stable and productive research platform for the shipping industry. The secret of this success lies in the willingness to discuss problems, share ideas on how to solve them and then bring together the resources to execute a work plan. More information about CRS can be found at www.crships.org.

MARIN will host the 12th International Ship Stability Workshop in Wageningen. The workshop will be organised from June 21 until June 23, 2010 and held at the Hof van Wageningen conference centre. The aim of the workshop is to have an extensive ex- change of ideas and methodologies on the stability of ships. The following sessions are scheduled: - Goal-based stability Standards Intact & Damage

- Risk-based analysis method - Naval ship stability - Stability of damaged vessels - Developments in intact and damaged stability modelling

- Operational safety - IMO developments concerning intact stability
