FEEDBACK
School Transportation News Published by STN Media Group
I read with interest the article “Deciding Fuel & Energy
Factors”
stnonline.com/go/jan19 in the January 2019 edition of School Transportation News. I do agree that the fuel options are greater now than in years past, but I was disappointed that the author did not even mention the resurgence of gasoline powered engine options for full sized school buses. We recently purchased five new gas-powered buses for our corporation and I would have liked to see this option also mentioned in the article.

Editor’s Note: Two school bus drivers for School
Transportation of America lost their 4-year-old daughter after she was struck by a police cruiser last month (
stnonline.com/ go/2x). The GoFundMe link for Gabriella Curry can be found on the School Transportation News Facebook Page.
“Thanks for sharing. We sure miss her at our STA location.” Tracy R. Nowlin via Facebook
Editor’s Note: The Wire Report, “Grant from Edison
International for Zero-Emission Buses” (
stnonline.com/go/wr) discussed the company’s partnership with CALSTART, which allowed several Southern California school districts to acquire new electric buses. Edison International owns utility Southern California Edison, which admitted aging infrastructure may have caused a destructive fire in November. Our article gained traction on Twitter @STNMagazine, prompting a response related to Northern California utility Pacific Gas & Electric filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, after its aging infrastructure was found to be the cause of the deadly Camp Fire, the worst fire in state history.
“Glad you got the money before SCE goes belly up!”

For the Record The January issue incorrectly stated on page 33 (“Safety First”)
that electronic stability control and lane departure warnings are optional on the IC Bus CE Series. ESC and collision mitigation enabled by radar come standard on all IC Bus models. A more advanced collision mitigation system is available on the CE Series that uses a camera in addition to radar that allows for additional features, including but not limited to lane departure warning. The 2019 STN Buyers Guide listed an incorrect number for
Florida on a map of Type C and Type D school bus purchases from 2010 through September of last year, based on R.L. Polk vehicle registration data. The correct figure is 7,818 units. The digital edition at
stnonline.com/go/bg19 reflects the change.
