parts, its ecosystem partners leverage its data to streamline parts procurement and optimize supply chain management. Sawyer agreed that tracking vehicle usage and

analyzing maintenance costs over time and mile- age also “helps optimize fleet size and replacement decisions ... [but] can reduce unplanned vehicle acquisitions, while ensuring efficient maintenance expenses.” Beacon Mobility has found AI to be effective for fleet management, Sawyer added, by analyzing driver behavior to assess real-time driving patterns and suggest coaching to improve safety and re- duce wear and tear on vehicles. Future AI use will focus on driver monitoring systems that deliver real-time updates on vehicle location, health and performance, which allows quick responses to issues to minimize delays or disruptions. The company also expects AI to automate

scheduling and dispatch for improved operation- al efficiency by matching the right vehicle to the right job at the right time. It could optimize costs by minimizing vehicle idle time and optimize fleet uti- lization. Real-time traffic data, weather conditions and historical route information can suggest the most efficient routes, which leads to fuel savings, reduced driver hours and overtime costs. Sawyer said that AI can also maximize fleet ca-

pacity “by ensuring the correct number of vehicles are on the road for the required tasks.” Hawkins and his team at First Student rely on an asset management platform called Hexagon, part of the company’s new proprietary HALO technol- ogy stack. Hexagon analyzes efficiency, manages inventory, schedules maintenance and ensures that every repair is data-driven on every bus from the day it’s purchased to the moment it’s retired. Each First Student location is scored monthly based on key performance metrics—from shop organization and cleanliness to technician ef- ficiency—to ensure that every shop, whether managing 25 buses or 500, maintains its highest possible standards. Inventory is closely monitored to prevent waste. “If a part sits on the shelf for over a year, it’s con-

sidered unproductive,” Hawkins noted. “We only invest in what we use.” When a bus enters the shop for scheduled main- tenance, Hawkins said, the goal is to address every issue so that it doesn’t return for another 90 days. Predictive analysis helps to make that happen by identifying and eliminating inefficiencies. “An in-
