AIR CARG O WEEK
WEEKLY NEWS 60 Seconds With ... BY Anastasiya SIMSEK
Or Zak entered air cargo by accident. Having graduated with a BA from university, he applied for a job at a courier company, got accepted, and that’s how his career in airfreight began. Now CCO at Challenge Group, Zak sees his role as something far more complex than just logistics. Most people say airfreight is about moving parcels from one place to another. For him, it’s about solving problems.
Most unusual thing you’ve ever shipped? We pride ourselves on handling all types of vertical cargo – from finished cars to aircraft engines to live animals. The most special? An elephant we shipped for a sanctuary in Africa.
Most exciting place you’ve visited for work? I recently returned from Mexico City, one of the destinations we’re looking to expand into with our new 777-300ERSF aircraft. It was my first time there – a vivid city, great people, and an overall brilliant experience.
Describe your job in two words? Problem solving.
Bucket list destination? Australia. I’ve never been, and I’d love to dive the Great Barrier Reef.
Best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Be patient.
What’s something we wouldn’t know about you from your CV? I’m a Dive Master – I love diving, both free diving and scuba.
Most adventurous thing you’ve ever done? I travelled through South America for nearly two years.
Cats or dogs? Dogs.
Tea or coffee? Coffee.
Window or aisle seat? Aisle.
