FEATUREHEAD IN THE CLOUD THE CLOUD

We catch up with Laurence Painell, Vice President of Marketing at IDBS, whose R&D

cloud-based platform has just won product of the Year at the National Technology Awards.

IDBS, a leading R&D and scientific software solutions provider, has been recognised by the National Technology Awards for its innovative cloud solution.

The firm’s flagship platform, The E-WorkBook Cloud, has been awarded

Cloud Product of the Year at the prestigious awards, beating companies such as UKFast and Workday for the coveted prize.

Launched at the beginning of this year, IDBS E-WorkBook Cloud is an enterprise cloud-based platform designed specifically to meet the demands of research and development data management and analysis in science driven industries globally.

An independent panel of judges chose IDBS E-WorkBook Cloud as the Product of the Year at the awards ceremony, which was organised by FStech magazine and took place at the Millennium Hotel London Mayfair in May.

When asked why he thought the platform had beaten off stiff competition from seven other cloud products, Laurence Painell, Vice President of Marketing at IDBS said: “I believe it is our bold mission to help the world’s leading R&D organisations to solve some of the world’s biggest challenges. The vast majority of our customers come from three different industry groups geared towards providing better energy, food and healthcare.

“This and our passion for technology and its capacity to help modernise organisations all played a part.”

Laurence described the benefits that the IDBS E-WorkBook Cloud offers to its users: “All researchers and scientists have the need to record their work and keep track of activities. This can be from an intellectual property perspective or from a regulatory and compliance point of view. The IDBS E-WorkBook Cloud

provides a single integrated environment to capture all of their data management needs.

“By combining the very best functionality of lab-based informatics solutions (ELN, LIMS, LES, SDMS & more) The E-WorkBook Cloud goes beyond traditional lab management software, providing cutting-edge data capture and analysis tools, job requesting and management, inventory management, and biology and chemistry functionality all in a single integrated environment with the same user experience and backed by enterprise support and services.

“With The IDBS E-WorkBook Cloud, they get flexible, scalable and powerful enterprise-level software combined into one of the world’s best R&D software platforms, enabling scientists and researchers to start building their lab of the future.”

Several high-profile clients are already using IDBS’ new technology. Laurence commented: “A good example of the types of customers using this new tech is Moderna therapeutics. In June 2014, CNBC recognised Moderna as one of the top 50 companies whose innovations are having a dramatic impact across their industries, and are poised for hyper-growth. They have been adding more and more users to their IDBS E-WorkBook platform as they grow. This is one of the major benefits of using this type of technology; they can expand it at will without the need to procure new hardware and infrastructure.”

So what does the future hold for IDBS? “We will continue to expand the capabilities of the platform including specific solutions for Bio-processing, bio-analysis, analytical sciences and formulations as well as adding new modules and features over time. On top of this we are focusing our efforts on integrations with other critical systems to further automate processes and looking at how we enable the lab of the future”, said Laurence.
