News Sponsored by AUTONOMOUS CLEANING
WITH ICE CO-BOTICS ICE have been pioneering autonomous cleaning for over a decade, and the last two years have proven to be a pivotable point in this journey for the industry. The appetite for innovation through autonomous cleaning is like nothing we have seen before – the technology is available, and the demand for ‘Co-Botics’ (humans and machines working in collaboration) is there. It hasn’t been an easy road, but the industry is now truly embracing the fact that automation isn’t about replacing operatives, it is about working alongside the Co- Botic equipment and redeploying the valuable resource elsewhere, such as for sanitising and thorough detailed cleaning.
Whilst productivity benefits and redeployment of resource in relation to autonomous cleaning has been well documented, it can also help to address the issue of resourcing challenges that are currently being experienced in many sectors. More businesses are exploring the use of autonomous machines to do the labour intensive but essential cleaning, leaving the staff to concentrate on detailed cleaning.
Using autonomous cleaning equipment also demonstrates real commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG),
something we should all take extremely seriously. ICE Co- Botics machines recycle water during operation, resulting in a 70% reduction in water used. Additionally, having the machine operating autonomously reduces the likelihood of operator damage, which reduces carbon footprint relating to engineer visits. The machines can also be managed remotely which further reduces the need for engineers to visit site.
The equipment can be simply and easily incorporated into existing or new cleaning operations in almost any kind of environment - commercial, transport, warehousing manufacturing or distribution, healthcare, retail, hotels, hospitality and many more.
All ICE Co-Botics equipment is as close to human activity as anything available. It is extremely intelligent and can be fully operated, controlled, and managed by the teams on site. The features ensure the delivery of the following key requirements when using autonomous equipment in day-to-day cleaning activities:
• Safety and efficiency – safe, consistent, and easy to map and control.
• Intelligent - it will clean any area without the need for technical intervention.
• Environmentally friendly – water recycling capabilities and a run time of up to five hours.
• Proof of clean - fully integrated telemetry and cloud-based reporting on a clean by clean basis.
The fact that we are able to offer a complete range of autonomous machines has made a real difference as this enables customers to select the model that best suits their particular environment, situation, or floor type.
The latest addition to our ICE Co-Botics family is the Phantas - a compact 4-in-1 robotic machine that sweeps, vacuums, scrubs, and dries! The Phantas is a small machine with a 33 cm cleaning width that literally

cleans right up to edges and corners, guaranteeing complete coverage. It is highly efficient and can clean effectively in tight spaces, narrow aisles and even under tables. The Phantas can also be remotely managed via an App, which includes remote control of the machine; activate, pause, or stop a cleaning task; or schedule the cleaning start time. Detailed reports are also available through the App that show the area cleaned, water used and remaining, and battery and consumable life remaining. It is also supplied with a charge station that the Phantas will automatically return to once the battery is low.
When considering introducing autonomous cleaning, we have found that the key to successful integration is to collaborate with the cleaning operatives onsite to ensure that the machines become part of the cleaning team and are not seen as a threat or a separate function. This requires fully involving the front-line operators so that they see the real value of the machines as collaborating with them, not replacing them.
Training is also key to successful implementation and to ensure that the cobots are used safely and efficiently. Our training and installation programme is ever evolving with the constant feedback we are receiving both from customers and ICE staff. We currently offer a three- part training plan that covers everything from daily maintenance to mapping and safe operation. Following this, operators can refer to our training and support packs that are available via our App and online training videos. We also offer top-up training on request as well as ‘Train the Trainer’ sessions which enable new staff to be educated to operate the machines effectively and efficiently.
