BBC Watchdog Raises Cleanliness and

Hygiene Concerns BBC Watchdog revelations should signal a wakeup call for the cleaning industry and highlights the need for a quick and effective way to remove harmful bacteria from all catering services.

Following news that BBC’s Watchdog programme found bacteria from faeces in samples of iced drinks from some of the UK’s leading restaurants and coffee shops, there has been an increasing flow of advice and information from the cleaning industry.

However, as Alastair Scott, Sales Director at Robert Scott explained “it’s not just simply about the cleanliness of a restaurant’s hand hygiene practices. This whole issue should raise the level of concern regarding the cleaning of all food preparation surfaces, floors and dining tables, ensuring that the right products and training are used for each potentially hazardous surface area.”

“All equipment, work surfaces, floors, cupboards, wall and appliances must be cleaned appropriately, regularly and thoroughly, ensuring that dirt and grease are removed and bacteria significantly reduced. One of the most effective materials to use is microfibre, and even better a disposable version of this proven method of tackling the removal of bacteria without the need for potential harmful chemicals.”

“We introduced microfibre into our range nearly 20 years ago, and this year launched Mi-Cloth, a new disposable microfibre cleaning

Alastair continued: “Cloths used in catering and healthcare institutions have been found to still contain high levels of bacteria after being laundered. By using Mi-Cloth as opposed to traditional cloths, cleaning professionals can be confident that as much as 99.9% of bacteria will be removed from surfaces with the risk of cross contamination also significantly reduced.”

“The revelations from the Watchdog investigation should be a wake-up call to all catering establishments - in fact any business that is serving the public should be paying attention to their cleaning regimes and at Robert Scott’s we’re here to help.”

Mi-Cloth sheets comes in packs of 50 and the roll contains 250 sheets, which can be used in dispensers, stored and carried on trollies, or kept on worktop surfaces.

Saracen Answers The ‘Call’

Saracen Interiors has completed a significant, bespoke, fit-out project for Callcredit Information Group as the marketing and credit solutions provider expands its London commercial space.

The company has now taken over the first floor of the Red Lion Buildings on Cock Lane in Smithfield, adding to its space by an extra 10,000 sq ft with a tailored design, encompassing unique and sophisticated features. The customised space has been designed by Saracen to reflect the brand, while accommodating further expansion and allowing for extra meeting rooms for staff occupying the third floor of the same building.

Work started in March of this year and was completed in June. The complete fit out included a ‘batcave’ meeting room with large TV screens, new suspended ceilings and flooring throughout, a kitchen and breakout area, the installation of LED Lighting and new furniture. The occupied

third floor was also refurbished by Saracen with extra care taken to prevent undue disruption to business activity for its client.

Director of Saracen Interiors, Michael Page commented: “Work for this client involved an intensive period of creativity and development, in the early design stages, to ensure that any space planning and subsequent fit-out activity - right down to the furniture selected and the mix of colours used - supported and honoured the brand.

“Once the job was underway, the focus necessarily shifted to the minimisation of any disruption as the client was keen to adopt a ‘business as usual’ approach. At Saracen, we will always make every effort to support such an approach, regardless of the scale of the job and its location, as part of our role is to understand and protect the client’s business. It’s an ongoing process which lasts until all work is complete.”
