AWARDS
SPONSORED BY: LOO OF THE YEAR
Are your ‘Loos’ the best in the UK?
Are your washrooms, or those you facilitate, Award Winners’? Are the facilities you offer among the Best of the Best?
This is the 38th year of the prestigious Loo of the Year Awards (LOYA), which seeks to showcase the best ‘Away from Home’ washrooms. We offer the only independent assessment process
for recognising excellence in the world of ‘loos’ and ‘washrooms’, and we assess against national standards as set out in partnership with the British Toilet Association.
Our award and trophy winners are recognised across the country and, in 2024, those winners achieved visibility and publicity approaching an estimated £250,000. That’s just from the final celebration at our annual event which takes place each January at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull.
We work with companies and organisations throughout the year which understand the value of great customer or staff experiences and recognise for some people, excellent, accessible and wonderful washrooms are an absolute necessity. The awards have 63 categories, which demonstrates the diversity and variety of washroom spaces across the UK and Ireland. When inspected, those washrooms are given a grading against 101 criteria.
Becky Wall BEM, Managing Director of LOYA, said: “In 2024, more than 1,500 venues across the UK and Ireland entered the awards and were proactive in welcoming our independent inspectors to their premises. These entrants were willing to be judged and graded, and welcomed the advice given around improvements.
“Those who achieved high standards of excellence went on to win awards which they can shout about with pride, giving their teams and their customers confidence around all of their services.”
The annual Loo of The Year Awards’ day of celebration also offers trade exhibitors the opportunity to network with relevant partners and make contact with key players in the sector. Do book early as spaces are limited.
Meet some of our 2024 winners In 2024, the overall Loo of the Year Award went to The Centre, Livingston for offering outstanding washrooms which achieved our highest grading of diamond. Congratulations to all concerned.
We also pride ourselves in recognising outstanding individuals in the world of washrooms. Our Washroom
Technician of the Year 2024 was Eva Tams-Szora from Bryndu Caravan & Camping Park Llyswen, Brecon in Wales, who stood out for the absolute pride she takes in her role.
The Lifetime Achievement Award went to pioneer Martin Jackaman from Nottingham, who has been integral to the Changing Places Toilet Campaign which aims to get more fully accessible toilets in public places for those with complex needs.
With others, he’s succeeded in getting more than 2,500 such toilets open across the UK and Ireland and he’s been fundamental in getting building regulations adjusted for public buildings to include changing places toilets.

How to Enter Entries are accepted from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. Anyone can nominate a washroom: staff, customers, visitors, managers, owners or contractors.
Once a nomination has been received, those entries need to be authorised by owners or managers as we charge for the inspection visit, which will take place after the closing date for entries.
The National and Overall awards and trophies will be presented at the prestigious daytime Awards Presentation in January next year. Entries are being received for the 2025 Loo of the Year Awards until July 31 2025.
