The second type of training – COSHH - requires significantly more time. Previously, COSSH training has required workforces to gather in groups to go through a teaching process with a guest instructor. This meant their customers had to sacrifice time and money in order to get all staff trained at the same time. This face-to-face method was a significant drain on resources and meant clients were effectively losing money by having so many staff out of action at the same time.

THE SOLUTION In order to improve operations, RP Adam created the free e-learning programme. This 30-minute interactive course takes participants through the necessary steps to understand the key aspects of using chemicals safely in the workplace.

This means clients are able to train their workforce as and when it suits them and they don’t have to worry about staff using working hours to attend a seminar. It provides a streamlined service that ensures every staff member is given the same clear message at a time and speed that suits each individual. The programme is also composed of many illustrative symbols and diagrams, which is a key benefit to customers who have a large or seasonal workforce.

Additionally the e-learning system means customers can train staff who might not ordinarily be reached. For example, shift workers who would tend to avoid coming out with their shift for training, are now able to access the information online at a time that works for them.

To make things even easier, customer businesses are also able to upload the training module onto their own intranet so employees can access this through their portal rather than having to be sent elsewhere.

THE RESULTS Since the introduction of the e-learning system in 2016, the volumes of staff receiving COSSH training using

the online module has massively increased. There were customers who were initially reluctant to move away from classroom-based teaching but after giving it a go they have now become converted.

trained simply means achieving the best results possible,

safely and in a cost effective manner.”

Nearly 10,000 customer trainees have now completed the course and the average monthly uptake is growing all the time, currently serving around 750 users a month. This shows that many more employees are being reached and given the appropriate safety information. Significantly, the e-learning programme has also released some 8,000 RP Adam man- hours which have been redeployed to other customer service activities. It is important to note that pre-planned service calls and face-to face product application training sessions have not diminished - indeed they have increased too, which effectively means that RP Adam is delivering more training than ever before.

Max Adam, Sales and Marketing Director says: “E-Learning is just one part of our overall digital service platform, which has now woven itself into the normal day to day activities of our business. With the use of RFID equipment asset tagging, communicating internally through an enterprise social network and our unique Arpal Service App, we continue to embrace digital technologies to improve the consistency and standards of our renowned service offering. We have some exciting plans afoot to develop our stock control system for larger nationals, and I am delighted at the way that our staff and customers have responded so positively to our digital revolution”.

clients, so much so that the Group health and safety manager for one of the company’s longstanding retail catering national contracts said: “This e-learning programme has been a great asset for us as we employ thousands of staff across the UK. Organising COSHH training for this many people is a huge undertaking, as you can imagine, so having access to this free interactive service has proved to be a great aid. The programme is easy to follow and it means all our employees are taught the same message so there’s no confusion over what is best practice.

“Using this e-learning system allows us to train more staff than before in a much more timely fashion as they can access it as and when is needed rather than having to wait for the next batch of face to face sessions. It’s a huge time and money saver for us and has added real value to our operations.”

When choosing to use commercial grade cleaning chemicals from RP Adam, customers know they are dealing with a reputable cleaning chemical supplier and have the comfort of knowing that the products are fit for purpose, are manufactured responsibly, and comply with the law. RP Adam values customer safety as a primary concern.

The course focuses heavily on helping users understand the CLP chemical safety labelling system. It explores a typical chemical label and explains in detail about Danger and Warning signal words, hazard and precautionary statements, the hazard pictograms and the importance of wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). The company is working on an Arabic and Hindi version of the course for their Dubai-based subsidiary, Arpal Gulf.
