Northwood Hygiene tell us a bit more about their recent acquisition of Disposables UK and what it will mean for both the company and the client going forward.


Northwood is a respected name, long-associated with the manufacture, supply and transportation of Away- from-Home professional paper hygiene products. Established as Northwood Paper Sales, the privately-owned company will celebrate 40 years in the business in 2016, and is the UK’s largest independent paper agent.


Its recent acquisition of Disposables UK Ltd brought together two family- run companies – Disposables and Northwood Hygiene Products Ltd – which share a similar approach to business.


The rationale behind the acquisition is underlined by Paul Fecher, Chairman of Northwood, who said: “Disposables and Northwood Hygiene Products have had a long and successful relationship and we operate in ways that are complementary to each other. Bringing together our two companies enhances our coverage of the whole Away-from-Home product range available to the market from one new, unified supply source.


“The addition of Disposables UK into our family of companies will bring many benefits to our overall business and to our customers as we continue to grow our presence in the UK Away- from-Home sector.”


With a newly enhanced product portfolio which includes some of the best-known brand names in the market, and a new, unified supply source, Northwood is on track to meet its aim of being the supply chain partner of choice for any organisation involved in the disposable paper industry.


We take a look behind the scenes to discover what the Northwood Group represents and, all importantly, what its enhanced offer will mean for new and existing customers.

SUPPLY CHAIN First and foremost, the new Northwood offer gives a strong and viable alternative to the two main players in the Away-from-Home market. The Northwood Group is made up of six companies, operating from six sites across the UK: Northwood Tissue (at Disley and Lancaster); Northwood Paper Sales (Harrow) and Northwood Recycling (Disley); Northwood Hygiene Products (N Wales and Telford); Northwood Logistics (Telford) and Northwood & Wepa (Bridgend), the latter being a joint venture where consumer tissue products are manufactured in a fully integrated tissue mill and converting plant.


For the Away-from-Home sector, Northwood’s own paper mills turn recycled waste paper into large ‘parent’ reels of blue and white tissue and towel grade paper. These parent reels are then supplied to their converting sites to produce paper hygiene products that range from hand towels to toilet rolls, to wiping rolls of all shapes and sizes. With a range of Ecolabel accredited options to choose from, products are quality inspected throughout the whole converting process to exacting specifications before being labelled, packaged, scanned and stored, ready for delivery around the UK via Northwood Logistics’ distinctive fleet of yellow lorries. Together with its newly expanded suite of products, the company is ideally placed to offer customers a ‘one stop shop’, acting as their complete supply chain partner.


STRENGTH IN THE CLEANING


AND HYGIENE MARKET Many customers will be aware of Northwood Hygiene’s portfolio of


market leading brands which include Leonardo, the award winning range of washroom and workplace dispensing systems and Essentials, a comprehensive range of everyday tissue and towel products, as well as Whisper, a consumer grade toilet roll brand and Perform, a range of paper and non- woven professional wiping solutions. Now, customers will benefit from an even stronger product portfolio and an enhanced premium offering with the addition of Disposables UK’s highly successful Bay West range, which includes the innovative new Bay West Impressions range. Added to this, is Optimum ProWipers, a fast growing range of specialist wiping products and Optimum Professional which comprises a huge range of paper products including the luxury OptiSilk toilet tissue collection.
