MULTI-MILLION CLEAN ENERGY CONTRACT
ABB has won a multi-million-dollar order from Energy Development Corporation (EDC) in the Philippines for a major retrofit to upgrade six clean energy geothermal units at two power plants in the Philippines. ABB will also deliver a new Control System Integration (CSI) solution for these plants and an area control centre facility. The plants have a total capacity
of approximately 200MW. The aim of the project is to deliver a modern control system integrated across all plants that can be easily upgraded over time. “With this order, ABB has been
able to leverage its experience in digital technologies, in high- pressure turbine control systems and in geothermal plants in this region, as well as its close working relationship with EDC,” said Kevin Kosisko, MD of ABB’s Power Generation & Water business.

Balfour Beatty has been awarded a multi-million pound contract to build the onshore substation for Ørsted’s latest offshore wind farm, Hornsea Project Two on the East
When operational in 2022, the
wind farm will supply clean electricity to over 1.3 million homes, and surpass its sister project Hornsea Project One, as the largest offshore wind farm. As part of the works, Balfour
Beatty will construct a new onshore substation facility, which will transform the power produced by Hornsea Project Two wind farm before connecting to the National Grid.
400MW of flexible power for Israel
PW Power Systems, a provider of energy solutions for the power gen industry, has signed an agreement with Zomet Energy, a subsidiary of OPC Energy, to construct a 400MW power plant near Kiryat Gat, Israel. The natural gas powered plant
features six FT4000 advanced technology, aero-derivative gas turbines. Project scope includes overall plant design, balance of plant equipment, construction, commissioning, as well as a long- term maintenance agreement. The plant will provide dependable and flexible energy that is critical to supporting Israel’s growing renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power.
World’s largest offshore wind farm unveiled
The world’s largest operational offshore wind farm, Walney Extension, was officially opened at a ceremony in Cumbria on the 6th
of September. The
659MW project, owned by Ørsted (50%) and partners PKA (25%) and PFA (25%), leapfrogs London Array to become the world’s largest operational wind farm. Walney Extension’s 87 turbines are capable of generating enough green energy to power almost 600,000 UK homes. Covering an area of 145km2
project becomes Ørsted’s 11th operational offshore wind farm in the UK. It features 40 MHI Vestas 8MW turbines and a further 47 Siemens Gamesa 7MW turbines.

OFFSHORE WIND TEST SITE GENERATES FIRST POWER
The groundbreaking European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) has generated power for the first time. Clean power from the pioneering offshore wind farm, developed by Swedish energy group Vattenfall, is being successfully exported to the National Grid from the first of the 11 turbines to go live. The power was exported via the
scheme’s innovative 66kV subsea cabling – the first time that cabling of this capacity has been installed on a commercial offshore wind project in Scotland.
