reliably. Even dark colours such as black, grey and dark blue can be distinguished, e.g. when measuring the grey shades of concrete blocks and paving stones. In the automotive industry, the colour sensor determines the colour change during galvanisation to stop the machine when the set point value is achieved. The CFO200 is also used to distinguish materials and coatings, as the sensor also reliably recognises minor colour deviations, e.g. from stainless steel and zinc to brass and gold. The high-precision CFO100 and CFO200 True Color sensors recognise any colour, whether it is for painting technology, automation systems, medical packaging, quality control, surface-labelling, and printing technology tasks.

ome say the 1806 three-terminal C filter is obsolete, but one electronics expert disagrees. Steve Hopwood, senior application engineer at Knowles Precision Devices (KPD), says that, “The rate of component obsolescence has increased over the past 15 years. OCMs are discontinuing more part numbers per year for a variety of reasons.” The increase in the number of EOL notices over the past 17 years can also be attributed to government regulations, economic slowdowns and catastrophic events such as earthquakes that knocked out some electronics production. Industries with short product lifecycles, such as smartphones, are not impacted as much as industries with longer lifecycles such as defence and aerospace. Products in those industries can be built for 20 or

more years and outlast the lifecycles of some of the components that they use. Many manufacturers have stopped producing three- terminal MLC chips in the 1806 size, but KPD hasn’t. In fact, it still supports 0805, 1206 and 1812 case sizes in addition to the 1806 variant. Under the Syfer brand,
