38 Water / Wastewater
The 26th global gathering for professionals specialising in mountainous environments to take place in France in 2024
Some of the key topics highlighted will include water and waste management and technology, command control, monitoring and measurement systems, safety and rescue equipment, snow removal equipment and road maintenance, biodiversity and the environment, and energy/energy transition.
The next Mountain Planet conference and exhibition will take place from 16 - 18 April in Grenoble, the self-proclaimed Capital of the Alps. The Mountain Planet exhibition has been held every 2 years since 1974, it includes a comprehensive program of meetings and 50,000m2
exhibitors and 40 offi cial, overseas delegations that focus on how to overcome environmental and safety issues in mountainous locations.
Now in its 50th year, Mountain Planet 2024 will include several new innovations to further enhance the event, this includes a start-up village, a tailored mobile app., and exhibits and round table discussions on solutions to achieving sustainable development challenges and the latest technical innovations of interest to anyone working on sustaining the majesty and beauty of a mountain environment, while harnessing the opportunities for commerce and industry in mountainous regions across the planet.
of exhibits, featuring 900
The event joins together all-season mountain professionals and urban area developers. A wide variety of industry sectors is represented at Mountain Planet, from global leaders to start-ups, including SMBs and professional bodies.
The last Mountain Planet, held in 2022, welcomed mountain ecosystem players from across the globe; over 23,000 key players, from 71 nations, attended the exhibition
including manufacturers, elected offi cials, local authorities, accommodation providers, ski area operators, among many others.

Online Analysis of Mercury (Hg), Arsenic (As) and Selenium (Se) in Wastewater with Part Per Trillion Detection Limits
Hg, As & Se are considered environmental priority pollutants and the determination of these metals in wastewater from industrial sources is a challenging application. In recent years wastewater treatment plants have been installing technologies to capture and remove the metals. The effi ciency of these treatment processes needs to be monitored using accurate analytical systems.
Some examples of industrial processes that require wastewater monitoring for these elements include:
• Thermal Coal Power Generation (FGD wastewater) • Oil and gas refi neries (Produced/Desalter Water) • Smelting plants • Semiconductor fabrication • Incineration wastewater • Chor-alkali plants
The targeted sample matrices are often quite diffi cult to manage so any online approach must be capable of handling a variety of complex waste waters.
Benefi ts of Online Analysers
It’s widely accepted that online analysers offer some major operational and cost benefi ts compared to traditional laboratory approaches including;
• Improved effi ciency, accuracy, and consistency of the data • No gaps in the data set (24/7 capability) - Realtime results (with alarm feedback) - Lower operating costs and labour savings through automation • Improved worker safety Online Analysers PSA’s online systems have the following attributes; • Touch screen PC
• Multiple sample streams including grab samples • Self-cleaning sample fi ltration. • Very Low reagent and utility consumption • Typically, 5-7ml of reagent is required per sample • Online digestion and sample preparation • Customisable alarm output options The integrated AFS detector offers a number of analytical performance benefi ts; • Ultra-trace limits of detection • Wide analytical linear working ranges • Lack of chemical interferences • Inexpensive running costs • Ease of use
In common with all our technology PSA employs AFS as our central analytical technology which offers dominance and leading performance in terms of; sensitivity, working ranges, freedom from interferences. These attributes combined with our novel sampling systems, our hallmarked robustness and ease of use make PSA your fi rst choice for trace metal determinations.
To compliment the online analysers P S Analytical offer a range of AFS laboratory-based systems. With the addition of analyte separation capabilities (which is becoming more routine) allowing for speciation studies, PSA offers powerful analytical tools to help contract laboratories, research teams and regulators alike with these determinations.
