ord is extending its FordLiive connected uptime offering, with the launch of Ford Tele-
matics Essentials. Small fl eets, of fi ve vehicles or less, have been able to use many of the benefi ts of the FordLiive system for free, since its launch earlier this year. The only criteria is that vans are equipped with a FordPass Connect modem (standard on Transit, Transit Custom and Ranger since mid-2019). Now Ford is offering a free slimmed- down version of its paid-for Ford Tele- matics system, free to all larger fl eet managers. Ford Telematics Essentials is a ve-
hicle health tool that allows fl eet man- agers to see all of their vans online. The system provides key vehicle health in- formation for each vehicle, including mileage, oil life and engine hours. This can be used to help managers to plan regular maintenance and minimise downtime.

Maintenance alerts, fl agging any action required by fl eet managers. These alerts are split into categories including Up to Date, Action Soon, Action Now, Overdue and Off the Road. The system also pro- vides this information to the custom- er’s local Transit Centre, if permission has been given. This allows the dealer to contact the customer proactively, to ar- range service and repair work, with the workshop able to pre-order any spares
that will be required prior to the vehi- cle’s arrival. Transit Centres can also use the system to see up to 60 days of vehicle history, before the van arrives in the workshop. Online bookings are expected to be added to the system by the end of the year. At present, Ford Telematics Essen- tials is offered in fi ve major European countries, the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. There are currently around 500,000 vans with a FordPass Connect modem in Europe, though this number is expected to rise to more than 1 million vans by mid-2022.
