THE GUIDE CHÂTEAUX 2021
Château de Tocqueville is an eclectic blend of architectural styles spanning three centuries
renovated in 2018 with très chic modern decor and soft furnishings. Its rural setting is charming too. Wander the seven hectares of parkland at dusk or dawn and you might spot deer and pheasants milling around. The château offers a large reception room of 170 square metres that can be separated into three rooms, making it popular for weddings and business seminars. There are also ten bedrooms available.

Château de Tocqueville (La Manche)
Such is its historic importance and eclectic blend of architectural styles (which combine 16th, 18th and 19th century construction), that Château de Tocqueville has been granted an official Monument Historique label. Added kudos comes from the fact that it was once home to Alexis de Tocqueville, the noted aristocrat, diplomat, political scientist and historian. Feel part of history by booking a stay in the majestic tower wing, located on the

south side of the château. Recently renovated with all modern comforts, it preserves the style, cachet and charm of the original castle. Spread across four floors, and boasting sea views, it sleeps up to ten guests. Outside are 14 acres of parkland which were designed in 1836 by Tocqueville’s English wife, Mary Motley.

A real treat is breakfast time – normally outdoors thanks to the region’s 300 sunny days a year. Expect delicious homemade marmalades and regional products, served on the vast terrace looking out on the village of Ortaffa.
