Home Is Where The Art Is


When The Acorn Gallery opened in 2007, it was a logical step for husband and wife team Diane and John Wass. They had gradually fallen in love with art, ever since a fateful day in 2003 when they ducked into a gallery in Epping to shelter from a storm – and there, Diane fell in love with a sculpture of two elephants and decided she just had to buy it.

Diane and John are often involved in domestic projects along with others in the York Lifestyle Group.

This was fated to become a reality, as Diane Wass explains: “One day we were sitting on a bench in picturesque Pocklington, eating sandwiches with the kids … and there before us was a little shop, empty and unloved, in need of some serious TLC and calling out for us to make it beautiful…so we did!”


Now the couple’s passion for art is focused on helping   sculpture from some of the UK’s most talented artists. “We look for work that stands apart from the rest by virtue of its style, its colours, or simply the artist behind it,” says Diane. “We seek out all things bright and beautiful, and we  factor, from gorgeous little watercolours to beautiful oils, pencil sketches, charcoals and everything in between!“
