COVENTRY 120 CIT Y’S CELEBRATION OF CULTURE
Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 will commence next month in May, running for 12 months. The 365-day cultural programme will reflect Coventry as a diverse, modern city, demonstrating that culture is a force that changes lives. Coventry is known internationally as a city of welcome, a city of activists and pioneers, peace and reconciliation, innovation and invention, and now a City of Culture.
For a whole year, Coventry will celebrate with events, music, dance, theatre, and large-scale spectacle. As well as these big celebrations, it will show its unexpected side, with more intimate experiences and ways to get involved in every neighbourhood. And it’s not just Coventry. This epic celebration will also witness the entire region getting involved and benefitting from the opportunities that being City of Culture brings. It will be co-created with the people of Coventry and bring about long-term social, economic and cultural benefits.
The people of Coventry and Warwickshire are being told to expect a Summer of Surprises once UK City of Culture gets underway as more of the events lined up for the landmark year have been revealed.
The celebratory cultural celebrations will be kick-started on May 15 with an epic, city-wide Coventry Moves.
Coventry Moves is being billed as an audacious day full of extraordinary surprises that will be experienced both in the city

and in homes across the UK from dawn until dusk. It will be a playful and engaging introduction to Coventry, its stories and its people.
As restrictions ease, a ‘Summer of Surprises’ will allow the people of Coventry and Warwickshire, alongside visitors from further afield, to enjoy events, experiences and culture once again as the Coventry City of Culture Trust delivers on its promise to take the UK City of Culture to every corner of the city.
