METHOD: • Using 4mm needles cast on 30 stitches • Rows 1-4: knit (called garter stitch) • Row 5: purl • Row 6: knit (repeating rows 5 & 6 is called stocking stitch) • Repeat rows 5 and 6, 5 times (10 rows) • Row 17: knit 1. (knit 1, Knit 2 together) x 9, Knit 2 (21 stitches) • Row 18: purl


• Row 19: knit 1, (knit 2 together) x 10 (11 stitches)


• Row 20: purl • Cut wool leaving a long end. Thread through the 11 stitches and pull to gather tightly. Fasten off securely and sew the seam from top to bottom. This seam is the middle of the back of the chick. • Place cosy onto your egg cup (with an egg in the egg cup) to make placing the eyes and beak easier and to make

MATERIALS NEEDED: • 4mm needles • Small amount of yellow DK wool • 2 wiggly eyes • Scrap of orange felt cut into a kite shape for the beak


• Darning needle & sewing thread • PVA glue

These are dead easy and quick to make. Great to make on Easter Sunday!


cress egg-heads


Carefully remove the tops from the eggs, leaving the bottom two-thirds of the shells intact. Empty the shells (save the eggs for another time), then carefully wash them out. Decorate the shells with pens or paint, then leave them to dry.


MATERIALS NEEDED: • Eggs • Cress seeds • Cotton wool balls • Felt tip pens

Dip the cotton wool balls in a little water, squeezing off any excess. Place 1 ball inside each shell, then sprinkle 1 tsp cress seeds onto each one. Sit the filled shells in eggcups and leave in a dry, well-lit place for a week – a windowsill is perfect. Your cress will start to grow within a few days, perfect for making egg & cress sarnies!
