President Duterte’s remark regarding the lawmaker’s supposed plan to run for President next year was just a casual joke.

“I am very grateful for the trust given to me by the President. Salamat po sa tiwala pero alam naman po ng Pangulo na hindi talaga ako interesado. Biro lang ng Pangulo iyon (Thank you for the trust but the President knows that I am not interested. The President was just joking),” Go said. “Please count me out sa usaping pulitika sa 2022 (from talks about politics in 2022).” Go, however, said he would probably change his mind if Duterte runs for vice president in the upcoming polls.

He noted that his Senate term would last until 2025, as he vowed to continue being of service to the Filipino people. “Bawat araw po na binigay niyo sa akin na pagkakataon na magserbisyo sa inyo ay hindi ko sasayangin. Ibabalik ko po sa tao ang serbisyong para po sa inyo (Every day that you›ve given me as an opportunity to serve you won›t go to waste. I would give the people the kind of service that they deserve),”Go said.

The Provincial Commission on Women and the Provincial Gender and Development Resource and Coordinating Center bestowed the Babayeng Garbo sa Katilingban title to Reyes last year in recognition of her efforts that brought a positive impact in her community. Reyes initiated a “Share a little Blessing Project” in her town in 2014 which brought feeding programs and gift-giving activities in public schools, jail institution, and other places in Tayasan.

This program was carried out in partnership with the municipal police department.

In an interview during the Garbo Awards in December 2022, Reyes said this initiative even reached hinterland areas in her town. Aside from bringing food to poor school-children, Reyes and her group of volunteers also conduct learning development sessions where they invite resource persons to discuss women and children’s rights. At the height of the pandemic, she led a relief drive where she and her volunteers distributed rice and other basic necessities to 700 households in their town. They also provided food commodities to all medical and non-medical frontliners in the northern part of the province.

nothing and this prompted her to start the “Share a Little Blessing” Project. “A few years back, I prayed that I could have my own little program after the 2012 earthquake that would reach the heart of people and to be able to help them change for something better. I used to have nothing but dreams, motivation, determination, and a whole of passion,” she recalled.

She also believed that she was able to accomplish these things with the help of the Lord.

Reyes drew inspiration from this realization which became the driving force of her advocacy. She also encouraged women to do the same to make a change in their community. “I am challenging you to release your strength and raise your voices in your own advocacy and make a change. You don’t need to have a lot in order to make a small difference. You don’t need much in order to change a life. Whatever you have in your hands and your power is enough to make yourself babaye nga garbo sa katilingban (outstanding woman of the society),” she emphasized. The annual observance of National Women’s Month aims to inspire and empower girls to be agents of change and raise the call to promote gender equality. It also provides a platform to discuss and address

This year, the theme of the celebration focuses on the challenges and opportunities for women during this pandemic period as reflected in its theme: “We make change work for women. Juana laban sa Pandemya: Kaya!” In relation to this, the PCW and the Provincial GAD Resource and Coordinating Center lined up events to promote this national observance in Negros Oriental. Part of this is the Kapihan sa PIA forum scheduled this month, GAD Planning and Budgeting Workshop on March 9 to 10, Gender Sensitivity Training and Orientation on Women’s Laws on March 25-26, and Women’s Summit.
